Restaurant Review: Wood Fire Grill, MIT Road, Pune

Wood Fire Grill (WFC, #‎Woodfiregrillpune‬) is a recently opened restaurant on MIT Road, Pune. Impressive seating decor and ambiance done for both interior and out-door seating. We visited the place for lunch, but tempted enough to try the place for dinner to enjoy food with refreshing outdoor seating. Also with the barbeque on the table, I didn’t saw too many places offering outdoor seating option with barbeque. So one point upfront for that.

The special thing of the event was, it was the first official food-tasting event of the FoodProwl (#‎FoodProwl‬) gang.

Apart form the impressive interiors, the another eloquent aspect of WFC was the presentation of each and every single preparation. As they say, “Food really does taste better when it looks good…”. Another powerful point gained even before the food review begins.

The place, as of present, seemed suitable to dine-out with friends, family, couples, groups, etc.

Also to brief it up, overall all the sea-food items served in particular were simply excellent and prepared perfectly. Also as it was a food tasting event, the items that if not went well surely had some scope of improvisation. So it will be an iterative process in the coming days for them, till they establish themselves .

Hopping onto the food:

Soups :

Murgh Badami Shorba : Very good Chicken soup that I had since some not. It was different from other conventionally available options. The used Chicken broth was nicely done and the additional flavors infused using Badam gave the shorba and extra potent flavor.

Starters :

Creamy Prawns :  I can correlate it to the white pasta preparation, replacing pasta with Prawns. The white cream was really done well but the two ingredients lacked the necessary blending, each entities individually were very good. So may be they can work out on to improve the final preparation.

Prawns Kurkure : One of the most innovative preparations to try out… Deep fried prawns with perfect usage of batter to give the base preparation the necessary crispy texture. And to further augment the crispiness, novel use of Poha on the surface. Necessary precautions seems to be have taken to prevent the Poha from burning out. A truly crunchy preparation overall….

Sunhare Prawns : Again a nice crispy preparation of prawns with yellowish batter giving it a golden texture. The prawns, as in all the other dishes, were consistently well prepared.

Murgh Zafrani Kebab &  Murgh Rossali Kebab : Both of them were very nicely prepared.

Murgh Dhahi Lasooni : Another innovatively done starter that used grilled chicken combined with curd blending the texture of spicy marination with flavor of curd to give a finally desired tangy flavor.IMG_20160116_135226Murgh Angara : Charcoal infused Chicken, spicier than all the other Chicken starters. Perfectly marinated with just the right balance of spices and cooked well too.

Bombil Koliwada : Fresh Bombil crispy fried, although a touch oily.IMG_20160116_144014Bombil Rawa Fry : Typical Rawa fry preparation which was well done and crispy. Less oily compared to it’s  Koliwada counterpart.

Paneer Makhmali Kebab : Indeed Makhmali as the name suggest and highly recommended for the veggies. The only veg starter that we had, yet pretty impressive enough to leave it’s mark. Thin slices Paneer, stuffed with minced Panner, Capsicum and other herbs, rolled and grilled to give the final preparation a perfect taste. Paneer overloaded with Panner… Beautifully prepared starter for the veggies. It could be better it they use more herbs and capsicum for stuffing instead of overloading it with Paneer itself.IMG_20160116_135005Main Course :Prawn Malwani Curry : Very well prepared malwani curry with balanced used of necessary flavors, nothing to complain about. The ratio of Prawns to curry was skewed.King Fish Kalwan Curry : Another very well prepared Kalwan Curry with really not much to complaint about. The Fish used was fresh and cooked perfectly. Both Prawn Malwani Curry and King Fish Kalwan Curry will taste better if served with Rice/Rice-Bhakari or altleast the customers are guided to do so. Sorry Murgh Lababdar : Curry which made use of Cashews and Tomatoes was on the sweeter side, not very sweet and acceptable if you are looking for something not too spicy. The chicken was very well cooked.IMG_20160116_151126Paneer Laziz : Again although being the only veg dish served for the main course, yet left it’s mark substantially. Really was a Laziz preparation with perfectly made gravy that should go well with any Indian bread.

Murgh Dum Biryani : The rice in the biryani was superbly done and powered with all the requisite flavors that a biryani rice needs. But the chicken, which was cooked well, didn’t blended very well with the rice. So that need to be looked into and can be improved upon. Also biryani lacked that inherent aroma/smell that it should posses when served. IMG_20160116_152712Desserts :Gajar Halwa : It was nicely prepared and perfectly sweet to my personal liking. However it can be improved slightly with better usage of dry fruit and khoya topping.IMG_20160116_154433Gulab Jamoon : Nothing really much to complain about the Gulab Jamoon’s. Served hot, prepared perfectly, soft and having just the right amount of sweetness.IMG_20160116_154439IMG_20160116_154408Drinks : All the cocktails served need to be improvised in terms of their basic preparation as well as the alcohol content 😉

Overall it was a very good experience. Looking forward to re-visit the place sooner or later., particularly in the evening hours to try out for their outdoor seating.
